Linda Depoyou

Linda Depoyou and her baby, Godsent. When Linda, a 27-year-old mother of three, gave birth to her fourth child, he weighed only 0.6 kilograms, or 1.3 pounds. So, Depoyou and her newborn were immediately transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Partners In Health-supported James Jenkins Dossen (JJD) Memorial Hospital in Maryland County.

Sam Zota/PIH

Partners In Health (PIH) Liberia collaborates with the Ministry of Health (MoH) to address maternal mortality by implementing a multifaceted strategy including community-based approach which focuses on empowering communities by training community health workers and raising awareness about maternal and newborn health. We integrate emergency obstetric and newborn care by making investments to enhance the capacity of healthcare facilities to provide comprehensive emergency services, including skilled birth attendance, surgical interventions, and neonatal care. We are involved in upgrading healthcare infrastructure, such as maternity wards, to ensure safe and hygienic conditions for childbirth. Our efforts align with national health policies like the RMNCAH+N Policy (2024-2031), which emphasizes integrated delivery of essential health services and life-saving interventions.
