Tuberculosis and HIV

At Partners In Health (PIH) Liberia, we aspire to eliminate tuberculosis (TB)—for everyone, everywhere.

Our Impact

PIH Liberia supports national TB and HIV programs by expanding community care, integrating services, and using global best practices to prevent, treat, and monitor both diseases.

Bendu V. Sannoh, the Social Protection Coordinator, and Thomas Snyder, the Social Protection Officer, visited Benjamin Gwemaie (middle), a former MDR-TB patient. As part of the PIH-L social support program, the PIH team also conducted follow-up visits to the homes of other former MDR-TB patients, including Lucy P. Jagbah and Samuel Konneh, to provide them with nutritional food items.

Tuberculosis

PIH Liberia’s TB interventions support the National Leprosy and Tuberculosis Control Program (NLTCP) toward the goal of ending TB by 2030 through investments in the Search, Treat, and prevent Approach. The search, treat, and prevent approach is a three-part method to address TB. It’s used by governments, public health organizations, and others in countries around the world.  At PIH Liberia, we use the approach to simultaneously carry out each pillar for a wider group of people within the communities we serve through our community-based programing.

HIV

PIH Liberia works with the National AIDS Control Program (NACP) for progressive achievement of the UNAIDS 90-90-90 goals by increasing the number of facilities providing testing and treatment, integrating HIV services in Primary care, eliminating vertical transmission of HIV from mother to child and implementing health information systems that support patient and population-level monitoring.
