Since its launch in 2021, the Partners In Health Liberia (PIH-L) scholarship program, supported by Global Action in Nursing (GAIN), has focused on building Liberia’s health workforce from the ground up. By investing in midwifery students, faculty, and training institutions, the program is addressing critical gaps in maternal and neonatal care while strengthening the systems that sustain quality service delivery.

Global health is finally getting the attention it deserves—but not for the right reasons. The interdisciplinary field and its impact—on everyone, everywhere—has become more visible in recent months due to foreign aid cuts enacted by the U.S. government.

Between 2021 and 2023, Partners In Health (PIH) Liberia collaborated with the Ministry of Health and the Maryland County Health Team (CHT) and reached approximately 5,705 mental health beneficiaries.

Partners In Health reflects on a decade of progress in West Africa, highlighting key achievements in maternal health, tb care, and health system strengthening, driven by long-term partnerships and community support. 

Mpox cases have surged in Africa, with over 15,600 cases and 537 deaths in the DRC in 2024. The WHO declared a global health emergency, urging vaccinations and treatments, which remain scarce in Africa.
